writers' creativity night

So last night I was invited to attend a small little 'salon' - a writers' creativity night.  Now I don't call myself a writer, but I was interested to see who would attend, and need some encouragement re: writing because my blogs have become so very dull.

I was wondering what perfume Dorothy Parker wore, as I thought that would be interesting to wear at this literary salon.  After googling a bit, I found out that it is surmised that she wore Coty Chypre.  As I don't have any of it, I ended up wearing Coty L'Aimant which is fast becoming one of my favorite perfumes. I know that they are not similar (or at least that is what I am told, because, well I haven't sniffed Chypre yet) but I thought well, maybe she wore that too at some point! ;)  Super thanks to Olenska who turned me onto this delight!  I actually looked at Ebay and found a bottle that looks very similar to the one posted on Olenska's post re: L'Aimant so hopefully it will be similar.

It was really a wonderful evening; it ended up being eight women.  We did a few writing exercises, and talked about various things, and got to know one another better.  At the end of the evening, K gave me a big hug and said (about me and her partner S) that we are the best smelling women in town.

Huzzah!

Note:  I'm working on a Profumum post - - hopefully it will be completed this week.

Happy weekend, folks!

    1. thanks so much Michael! I'm having a GREAT weekend - went to the Farmers' Market this morning, and met a wonderful female farmer and chatted, and then walked through town at everyone doing the Chalk Walk, and now just relaxing after watering the garden.

What I meant by 'dull' was that I keep using the same words to describe perfumes I like - I need to be more...something!

Hope you and your family are enjoying the weekend, too!

  2. 1. Your blogs are NOT dull. You write with verve and wry wit. (Say THAT twelve times fast.) I look for posts from you every darn day. And I think your adjectives are peachy.

    2. I LOVE the cut of your salon's jib! I LONG for our local creators' scene to be a little more like yours sounds like-- full of lively conversation and true camaraderie. Most of the participants in the artist/writer groups Nan & I have run at the library only seem to attend for the purpose of sniping at each other, cocking a snook at the local arts community, pushing their own projects/agendas on the gathering, and gobbling free food provided always by someone OTHER than themselves. Very disheartening. On the other hand, there's an amazing group of hip younger (20+) creators who are FULL of incredible vitality, enthusiasm, and DIY spirit-- I work w/ them whenever possible and am always grateful for what they teach me.

    3) Ah! awesome L'Aimant! The one I sent you is "parfum de toilette", but I also have some of the EdC and it's just as terrific!

    1. 1)see that is exactly why I need that writers' group - I don't convey specifically what I mean! ;) (and thank you my dear!)
      2) I think what helps is when you hand-pick people to attend - that way, you can kinda figure what personalities work together, etc. It's a bit Machiavellian but hell it works! ;)
      3) I hope it smells close to the stuff you sent me...oh please world, make it so!!

  3. These guys beat me to it...your blogs are not dull - how could they be, when you are such a livewire and a maverick?!

L'Aimant is the one like No 5, right? I do see it around still, but boxed sets of it languish in bargain bins for £9.99, I think because the present generation of perfume buyers doesn't know what it is.

    1. Oh Bonks, I have become quite the hermit lately (for the most part) but I guess I have a little maverick left in me ;) Thanks my sweet! Yes, L'Aimant is supposed to be like No 5 yet I need to do a side-by-side comparison. The L'Aimant Meg sent me was vintage - I haven't tried the stuff that is available nowadays.

  4. I agree with everyone: Your blogs are NOT dull! I love them!
Have you checked out the Vermont Country Store online? They have other Coty fragrances like l'Origan, plus other cool old-school scents like Tweed, Interlude, Fleurs de Rocaille...not to mention l'Aimant!

    1. hello Ginger!! Thank you, but I still need to come up more descriptive phrases! ;)

I have looked at that on-line place - in fact, I think they were the only ones that had the re-issue of the Coty Earth series. Will have to check them again..NOW!

    2. If you love Oscar Wilde and Jersey Shore not so much, you may appreciate Jersey Shore as performed by the cast of The Importance of Being Earnest.

Then again, maybe not. I mean, if you have small children about. (I don't think Snookie calls it a salon.)

(Google "Jersey Shore" Gone Wilde if the link fails)

Chypre seems perfect for Dorothy Parker.

  7. I know how you feel about L'Aiment Carol,it's a delight. I also love Emeraude by Coty. There is no keeping up in the perfume world they are flinging them out and some of the ones I want are £200.00s( more than our weekly food allowance ).I got a vintage box of Gres today it only cost me £12.99 and even though there are only 7.5ml x5 they will amuse me for weeks.Angie Cox
